Toni Russell


Toni Russell was born in Cardiff and brought up in Oban, where her interest in traditional music and the clarsach began.  She graduated with honours from the Applied Music Degree at Strathclyde University and now spends her time teaching and performing.  Toni teaches for Fife Council, Lomond School and makes weekly visits to Oban to teach and perform in the Caledonian Hotel where she has a weekly residency. 

She has performed at many venues and festivals in Scotland and has travelled to perform in France, Italy and Ireland and has taken part with Na clarsairean in two world harp congresses in Prague and Geneva.  She was the winner of the Advanced section of the clarsach competitions at the Royal National Mod in Blairgowrie 1996 and again in Dunoon in 2000 and was the runner up at the International Harp competition at the pan celtic festival in Tralee, Ireland in 2004. 

Toni has successful established Na Caileagan Phinc clarsach ensemble who now perform regularly at ceilidh’s and concerts and in her spare time teaches highland dancing.
